Malone Vocabulary World History

Students were learning new vocabulary in World History. The process that they have been using throughout the trimester is to first find the word in the text and write down the sentence that it is used in. Next, they write the definition in their own words. Rather than having the students work independently, they have been assigned partners and each partner completes a different step in the process. The partners also are encouraged to check for understanding and, if needed, reword the sentence or definition as a way to increase understanding.

Malone Part 2

During the previous class students completed an assessment for the first section of Night. As a method of increasing student participation they were given colored notecards with the letters A, B, C, and D on them the following class. The teacher, and then students, read the questions out loud and each students held up the notecard with the letter that they choose for the answer in front of themselves.

Brewer in TT Applied Chemistry

The first few minutes of the video are instructions on the quiz that was to be taken by all students. The rest of the video consisted of students using their Physical Science book to answer questions on the handout, "Properties of atoms and the Periodic Table". I read the first section's paragraph, "Atomic Components" out loud to the students. We then went back to the first section of notes (corresponds to the reading) and completed together as a class. Students were asked to individually read and answer the following questions in the handout.

PALs

This is the second day with my Study Skills class where I am introducing a new reading program. We do very little choral response, so it's fairly new to the students and I have NEVER taught this intervention before, so it is very new to me. It's about 15 minutes long, but the engagement strategies are more in the first 7 minutes or so. I just sat the Flip up in the back of the room.
